An Soon-Tae

Lee Ha-Nnah
Abstract
This study evaluated online suicide prevention information given the impact of media content on the public¡¯s health behavior. Suicide prevention information posted on the portal site NAVER was analyzed to see whether the information encouraged help-seeking behavior. We also assessed the reactions of those with suicidal ideation based on their comments. Results uncovered the tendency of blaming individuals for not finding solutions for the suicide crisis. Consequently, negative coping responses such as avoidance were more prevalent than active coping responses. Also, those with suicidal ideation revealed self-stigma by blaming themselves. Taken together, the results provided practical and scholarly implications on the role of online suicide prevention contents.
